Flash Lite Applications: Kero Mobile and KiTwitts, major development differences!

biskero | 06 June, 2009 17:51

Just wanted to share some Flash Lite projects: Kero Mobile and KiTwitts

Here some consideration. Kero Mobile supports more then 45 Nokia S60 devices with Flash Lite 3.0 and Flash Lite 2.0. The difference to make it work on both versions was just a re-publishing (re-compiling) for the different Flash Lite version, nothing more. KiTwitts supports all Nokia S60 devices with Flash Lite 3.0 and Flash Lite 2.0 and it is developed for 3 different screen resolutions so I have created 3 different versions. I could create only one version and have the application adapting to the screen sizes. I would need to re-publishing (re-compiling) since the application supports both Flash Lite versions. I decided to create 3 versions since the application is very simple and it did not take much time. There were also some consideration for the touch version for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic/N97 to take into account. In any case there are some major differences between the two applications. Kero Mobile is an application/platform and have a lot of planning, designing and developing behind while KiTwitts is a standalone application which took few hours to create and couple hours to do the porting to touch devices.

Another key parts of these application is the use of mobile advertizing withing the application itself based on keywords, device and location. I think is the first time is been used in Flash Lite. It's going to be interesting to see the statistics in some time.

Nokia OVI Store launched

biskero | 26 May, 2009 06:51

Today the Nokia OVI Store finally launched starting from Australia. Dale, a Forum Nokia Champion, has posted some screenshots and a walkthrough of a game purchase. It seems that the first countries to receive the OVI Store are the ones with Operator/Carrier billing integration. By the way, the OVI Store look like is a WRT application.

How to protect Flash Lite content with OMA DRM 1.0 Forward Lock for Symbian installer .sis

biskero | 02 May, 2009 19:59

I publshied an article on the Forum Nokia Wiki, explaning how to create a OMA DRM 1.0 Forward Lock protection for Flash Lite content when is packaged into a SIS file.

The idea is pretty simple but it took sometime to get it done for several reasons. It involves creating a new file in PIP format which contains other files. I figure out the method several months ago but I had to do several tests and rebuild the Symbian C++ code for launching the Flash Lite content.

Forum Nokia: A Winning Opportunity for Flash Developers

biskero | 21 April, 2009 17:31

 Ciao,

just wanted to share some great initiatives for Flash Lite developerfrom Forum Nokia:

"Forum Nokia is offering to assist in improving content if submissions are made by the end of April."

A Winning Opportunity for Flash Developers

Do you develop Flash Lite applications for Nokia devices? If so, Forum Nokia has two funding opportunities that could be a real win-win for your efforts:

    1. The $10 million Open Screen Project Fund grants funding to developers who are creating applications and services for mobile, desktop and consumer electronics devices using the Adobe Flash® Platform. Initial areas of focus for funding include: entertainment; social networking; productivity; gaming; news and information.
  1.
    • Premium placement of the winning application in Nokia’s Ovi Store, where consumers will find the best Flash applications for Nokia devices
    • Paid travel to demo the winning entry at a Nokia-specified event
    • Review by Nokia for possible preload of the application on future Nokia devices
  2. 2. Developers that receive funding can use the money to create applications for submission in the Flash category of Forum Nokia’s 2009 Calling All Innovators contest. Total cash and prizes are worth more than $250,000 (USD), and include immediate business opportunities with Nokia:

As an incentive for you to submit your Flash application to the Calling All Innovators contest, there is an additional cash prize of $10,000 USD for one winner that also received money from the Open Screen Project Fund.

Contest entries will be accepted until midnight (EST) on 30 June 2009.

Apply for funding from the Open Screen Project Fund »

Then submit your Flash Lite application to Calling All Innovators »
