Flash Lite 101, a new mobile technology

biskero | 27 September, 2006 04:18

I am a Flash Lite developer and I would like to introduce other developers to this new mobile technology.

Currently all Nokia 3rd Edition S60 and Series 40 have the Flash Lite 1.1 player embedded into the OS. There are some differences between the implementations on the two platforms.

For example the S60 3rd edtion currently can run Flash Lite 1.1 content in Standalone mode and inside the WAP browser. So you can run an application or a game in fullscreen mode or view it in the WAP browser as an embeded object.
On the other hand the Series 40 3rd edtion supports Flash Lite 1.1 content as Standalone, Wallpapers, Screensaver and Sub-LCD.

Soon Nokia will begin to ship S60 and Series 40 mobile phones with Flash Lite 2 embedded, which will help to create more complex content. If you are interested in the differences between Flash Lite 1.1 and Flash Lite 2 check here.

Also here are other resources:
You can visit my blog, biskero.org, where I blog daily on Flash Lite content. I have a list of tutorials and resources that will help to understand more this new mobile technology.
I am also the manager of the Boston Adobe Mobile and Devices User Group and if anyone is interested in joining please send us an email. The User Group is open to anyone interested in Flash for mobile devices, we organize online presenations from Flash Lite companies/developers around the world.
