Design a Mobile Application to Empower the Farming Community of India!

The spread of mobile phones in India is growing rapidly and the number of subscribers had reached 166 million at the end of March 2008. Simply meeting the communication and entertainment needs will not mean much unless we answer the vital question, Is there a social responsibility while extending mobile connectivity throughout the world? Back after a vacation!

balagopalks | 11 September, 2007 20:15

It was couple of weeks back, I started dreaming about coding even in my dreams, Thanks Hartti for the advice to go in for a vacation. I planned to take a week vacation last week so that I can enjoy the regional festival Onam with my family and friends. Well, there is lot to tell about the festival Onam. Its one of the biggest festival of the South Indian state Kerala. You can read more about Onam here. I enjoyed being with my family and have done some long drives to KanyaKumari, Kochi and Guruvayur

As GPS is not that much popular in India, earlier I never got a chance to use GPS while I travel. I was more interested in GPS when I got my E90. So took the E90 along with me and fixed it in the dash board of the car. Even though there were no maps for the different parts of my country, I was saving the Locations with Longitude and Latitude of different places I traveled. And one thing that amazed me was the Speed calculation with GPS. I tried braking and accelerating while I drive, to my surprise, its as exact as the speed of my car. Now I am looking for the day, when the complete digital map of India is available. Heard that maps of different big cities in India are already available. But I wish to have maps of almost all cities in India. Am I crazy ? :)

Oh!  yeah! I found a way to promote MOSH as well. Those interested can see it here ;)

Will my dream come true?

balagopalks | 10 August, 2007 12:02

I was travelling on a bus and reading a book on Symbian C++. I just wanted to write a sample app using Camera and took my Phone. It was a phone very similar to E90 :-/  . Done the necessary coding using QWERTY keypad, compiled it and ran the application right on the phone.  Wanted to make some some modifications in the code to implement Video recording funtionality and upload to a Sever, Long pressed Menu key to switch the display back to IDE on my phone, done the neceassary coding, compiled it back again, run the application and was capturing a Video. eekss!! Suddenly the bus braked! I just stood up to see what happend - I was not in a bus :-/ , I can see my room, my Symbian C++ books beside me.. Where am I ??  That was a dream ?? I was just wondering - I woke up from my bed and still was unable to believe that I was on a dream! But I have to!!  It was about 6:45 am and have to get ready to go to office.

In my part of the country there is a belief that dreams that happen in early morning will come true - Will my dream come true ?

Nokia USB Charger

balagopalks | 17 January, 2007 07:40

Tired of carrying your ordinary Nokia Mobile phone charger all the way on your business trips? Forget to charge your Mobile, battery is running out and you don’t have your heavy charger with you? Here comes an easy solution: Nokia USB Charger CA-100

Seems to be an easy solution for Charging, you don’t have to even look for a power plug near your desk. CA-100 allows you to directly charge from your PC's USB port.

Hmm.. There might be several 3rd party USB chargers, but I suggest to always go with genuine accessories.

A Champion year !

balagopalks | 16 January, 2007 11:50

It was about a year back, on a bright sunny afternoon, that I got a mail from Nokia. Since it was not from any personal mail id, I thought it would be some newsletter and added it for my spare time reading. I went back to my work, but that mail from Nokia was haunting me. I opened the mail and read it. I was rather surprised and could not believe my eyes, so thought of replying. Immediately, I got a reply from the Forum Nokia team welcoming me as a Forum Nokia Champion!

Yes! That was the starting of a Champion year! Some weeks later I received my Champion device and a Forum Nokia diploma. That moment was one of the most unforgettable moments in my life. It was great going.. We were invited for participating in some Pilot programs, special invitations for different Forum Nokia events and training sessions and so on..

A Champion year has gone by and I am proud to be one of the Champion members. It gives me immense pleasure when remembering the past year. And of course I do thank the excellent support extended by the Forum Nokia Champion support team.

Another great advantage that I got as a Champion is a bunch of good friends and several good contacts including Juarez, Mateen, Hartti, Ron, Peter.. Hmmm the list goes on..

The community feeling that I am experiencing here is the driving force for continuing my stay here. Hope this will be the same in coming years too..

Well, its almost dusk and end of a Champion year..

Thanks Nokia and the team behind.. Keep up the good work.....

For those who are not aware about the Forum Nokia Champion program, you could read it here

Gopal
