FAQs on Discussion Boards

hartti | 26 July, 2006 22:51

We have added a number of "Frequently Asked Questions" sticky posts on Forum Nokia Discussion boards (for example see Java and Symbian FAQs) as we have seen same questions asked over and over again on the developer discussion boards. We hope to remove this unnecessary duplication (triplication, quadruplication, ...) of questions with these FAQ posts. Time will show if we will succeed or not.

In addition to these Discussion Board FAQ there are also other FAQ-type documents on Forum Nokia Web site (like for example FAQ in Technical Library and the Java ME Developer's Library), which will provide additional answers to your questions.

Do you think these FAQs are useful in general?

Are missing some important questions? (remember that this is work in progress, we will add more topics and questions as time goes by)

Any other feedback? The floor is yours.

Very good initiative !
thx a lot !
amongst the questions that are asked over and over, and that you almost answer through the device specifications link is : "Does my phone support this functionnality of this API ?"
The simplest example being : "Can i take a picture using my 6230i ?"
May be it could be useful to open the thread to forum nokia champs.

hartti Good point, might be worthwhile adding some details in that part, like a pointer to the document describing the MMAPI functionality availability on Nokia devices.

BTW, I got your message four times. Just wondering if you experienced a problem in submitting, was it a usability problem, or was it something the system generated itself (you submitting the comment just once...)

i posted it four times. There was a problem in submitting, as each time i posted it, it just didn't appear, and it looked like it was not saved. So i tried a couple of times, and i gave up.

hartti Ok, thanks for the info. This is what I sort of suspected, as you won't see your post until I approve it, so one might end up posting it multiple times. I'll forward this feedback to the platform developers, and see if they can do anything about it...

Hello Hartti,

well done!

FAQ list in my opinion:
- is a nice shortcut to find something required (one don't need to read lengthy "Introduction" chapters as in official docs)
- can be very helpful resource for someone starting learning j2me on specific platform (e..g first time visitors on FN)
- usually is better managed that officials docs lists (all we know that release procedure for documentation in company is quite complicated), easier to update or to provide some ad-hoc documentation
- can provide some "un-officiall" experience from other developers - that way sharing knowladge in community,
we also know that people usually do not read FAQs or Manuals - but that's fact of live!

keep good work,
regards,
Peter Blazejewicz

Hi,
I am new to DRM protected content handling. I have a requirement where I need to handle OMA DRM 1.0 protected media files on Windows XP PC and download contents to MSC/MTP based portable devices connected through USB. The protected media contents can be transferred to PC from a OMA DRM server.
Can anyone provide me the neccessary guidance or resources to implement the above system? Is there any tools/SDK available?

Many Thanks
Ashu

hartti Ashu,

If you have not yet asked this on Discussion Boards, I would recommend you to repost this in here
http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=64

Also there is some documentation on DRM on Forum Nokia Web site
http://forum.nokia.com/main/resources/documentation/drm.html

best regards,
Hartti
