Keyboard shortcuts in RDA

hartti | 01 May, 2007 09:36

After finally having some time to test the Remote Device Access service from Forum Nokia (some write-ups of other people's impressions of the RDA and the use of this tool by for example Vinod Kumar KV and Bernardo Carvalho & Daniel Rocha), I found the tool quite useful for certain types of testing (like being able to test it on multiple different devices without purchasing the devices themselves, finding how the app looks on different devices, and if the application has any major problems on real devices) and not so useful for other types of testing (performance, testing the cellular connectivity - only WLAN connection available, or testing the application behavior when the user manipulates the device, like flips the phone open).

The tool has very complete user guide available, but to me it seems to be lacking one thing - the complete list of keyboard shortcuts (which are of course available when you start working on the RDA device, but in some cases it is useful to be able to share the shortcuts with people not currently having access to the tool, in order to be able to plan for example some automated testing). Here is a quick screen-shot (well, in fact a combination of two screen-shots...) of the shortcut list. Enjoy.

[Edit: Turns out that the shortcut lists are missing for a reason, the key mappings are different depending on which phone you are using... the list below is from N73]

PS. I wish the S60 3rd Edition emulator had this comprehensive shortcut list...

Just to note that each device has a unique keyboard layout and shortcut list (that being the major reason for not listing them in the user guide).

hartti Are you politely trying to say that I screwed up :-)

I have to edit my original posting as this example is from N73 shortcuts.

I guess I have to spend some time with other devices in the RDA to find the differences... Could you give us one example what kind of differencies there are, and at the same time, enligthen us (or at least me, if everyone else gets this immediately) why the shortcuts are different from phone to phone? Is it just that the keypad / keyboard on the real devices are different?
