Since we launched our new blog platform (LifeType) and changed the UI of our community section (blogs, discussion boards, wiki) in late October we have had commenting available for all blog readers (of course we had a spam filter in place) in order to make it easier for occasional readers to comment on the blogs and to make the blogs more lively.
However, as of today, we have turned that feature off. So all commenting will require the readers to log on to Forum Nokia (note, that this has been always the case with Forum Nokia discussion boards and wiki, so this aligns blogs with other services).
Why did return back to the old way of handling the blog comments (after all, this is how the earlier blog platform handled commenting)?
1) Automatic spammers kept on filling the system, and even though the spam filter worked very well, deleting the spam messages required efforts from all of the bloggers. Also in certain cases, valid comments were marked as spam.
2) Forum Nokia allows you now to stay logged on to the service for an extended period. So regular readers would be most likely already logged in for commenting.
I hope this allows our exiting bloggers spend more time on writing new and cool blog entries, instead of combing through the tens of spam comments trying to find out a potential gold nugget... and hence all readers will benefit.
Comments are welcome (and in case you want to comment but you do not want to register to Forum Nokia, you can send me email... guessing my Nokia email is not that hard, after all... Hint: first name is separated from the last name with a dot...)

I think this update will clear out spam from root.
I need a little help, maybe you can help. I use a Windows based client for posting blog posts on my other blog.
I've just discovered my new blog here, and I want to use the same blog client to post here as well.
Can you help me find out if LifeType blog system supports API for posting and how I can configure it with my client?
BTW, I use Live Writer for blog posting.
Thanks,

chall3ng3r,
We are adding an ATOM-based API for publishing to blogs.forum.nokia.com that is compatible with the Nokia LifeBlog application. I looked at the Live Writer site and couldn't tell if it was compatible or not. I've made a note of your request.

Thanks, I will wait for the update.

Did you ever document how to connect to the LifeType blog API via external tools?
I tried to set this up as I too use an external blog editor ... it makes it 10x easier to post from ONE location rather than log into separate web admins to post ...
I figured out the location of the api but the way to login and blogpost eluded me, since it is hooked into the Nokia specific login.
Would be great if Nokia could document this and then post somewhere for forum bloggers to take advantage of. Thanks!

Added this to my to-do-list (which is almost as long as my wife's honey-do-this list for me)

A welcome change IMO

I feel better now that I can see my comments appear on the blogs immediately after I post them, and that way I'll have an idea of what others said before me since I now can read their comments, which before were in moderation queue and thus invisible to the other people until they got published.
I believe the decision to turn off the spam filter was for the best.
