I've been poking my nose in mobile software development since 2000, starting on what was then the ER5 and Ericsson's R380. Since then I've been doing a bit of everything on the S60 Platform, from learning its bits and pieces to helping others find their way trough the maze.

S60 3rd Edition FP2 SDK released

No media hype, no cool videos and no amassing press releases. Not yet anyway :) But yes, the S60 3rd Edition SDK, supporting Feature Pack 2 (aka S60 3.2 SDK) is out and waiting for you to download it.
A set of webinar sessions will probably follow and presentations in developer events but, for now, here's a brief list of what this SDK brings to the table.
First, it is a hybrid SDK so while the size of the download package is some 20% increased you get:
- S60 Symbian C++
- S60 Java
- Open C
- Web Runtime
So, four SDKs for the price of one. Sweet! But you'll have to remember to use the Custom install option if you do not want to install everything on your system. ;)
Speaking of install you will most likely notice the change of the default install location (C:\S60\Devices) and a new directory structure (e.g. \S60CppExamples replaces the familiar \S60Ex). All the rest pretty much standard but of course you will have to read the install guide just to make sure that you are not doing some install time mistake.
Below you will find a "mind map" with some of the changes in the S60 Platform. More information can be found of course in the release notes and in the comprehensive (and slightly improved) SDK documentation.
One tip about the SDK documentation: a mix of C++ and Java results for a search is probably not what you'll find most useful. The solution comes from the Eclipse Help Viewer, as it allows you to define search scope filters, so you can limit the search to C++ topics only.
Ok, this is the news. I hope you will enjoy this SDK release and I wish you happy coding … as soon as the first phones supporting this SDK are available.

The tool is in the SDK, under "%EPOCROOT%epoc32\release\winscw\udeb\" and is also documented. Make sure that the S60 3rd SDK FP2 documentation browser is open and then try this link in a browser: http://tinyurl.com/5p2hd2

Hi Itomuta,
I see "DbCreator Tool" in mind map, but can't find anything like that in SDK. Is it Carbide plugin or standalone tool? Please advice.
