The mobile phone as a cyber policeman

coultonp | 23 January, 2007 13:18

I came across this article via a number of mobile blog sites which details New York’s move to accept images and videos as part of its 911 and 311 services. In the UK we certainly saw the power of user reporting with the London tube bombings and I guess this is a natural extension to utilise the power of such phenomenon. Be interesting to see how successful this is and whether is changes peoples perceptions of the mobile phone.

Perhaps we can use it too to nab all cyberspace criminals. One of the hottest issues is about myspace phishing (http://www.profilepitstop.com/articles/myspace/identity-theft-and-myspace-phishing.php) and being an avid myspace user, I'm definitely affected with this. Can Nokia and Myspace tie up concerning about this?

Its an intriguing idea that we would perhaps have a similar virtual E911 system to identify criminals in the virtual worlds but in this case what is proposed is in essence a mixed reality solution and more akin to you tube
