My principal interest in mobile is to push the boundaries of innovation to create uniquely mobile experiences. I hope my blogs excite and challenge developers to think 'outside the box'.

In my last post I introduced the project Point’N’Seek and in this post I present the latest added functionality which I hinted at in my last blog of allowing users to augment the POI of interest with their own location and direction aware photographs. The following video shows this in operation and what is particularly novel comes at the end when user can spatially search the photographs of a particular POI to obtain one from a specific direction. The idea is that this could be used to make POI easier to find by pedestrians as the photograph they see would be from the direction the will be approaching it from. The example in the video is a photo of Infolab21 taken from a position NW of the buildingAn added bonus is that a database of such photographs could perhaps be stitched together to create a king of user generated Streetview perhaps using something like the Microsofts Photosyth image processing.
In the next stage of development we are planning to switch to Navteq Maps to allow us to fully explore orientation. Any other suggestions gratefully received

First of all thats for the ositive feedback always nice to be appreciated ;).We had considered saving the maps as you suggest but we also want to move the orientation of the maps relative to the compass bearing for the flashlight. Whilst i could create functionality to do this ourselves i think ts will be easier to use the Navteq solution (and we havent played with that much yet so would seem like a good excuse). This is primarily due to the fact the user trials we have done thus far have shown dynaimc orietation of the map is best when using the sensors but interesting the north fcaing one seemed fine when using the keypad which may have implications for creating backward compatability in this area.

Wowww
Hi Paul.
The Street View Is Good Idea . And I Have a Suggestion For You :
On The Google Maps Mobile The Data (Maps) Will Save about 2047 kB and Dont Save Maps More , Google Maps Mobile Save Maps In The Cache. And Every Time Open The Google Maps , You Must Connect To GPRS or Wlan and Download Maps (Sattelite & Map) Again. For Example Nokia N95 8GIG Have 8GIG Mass Memory And Only Save 2047 Kb Maps !!!!!!!!!!
Do You Want To Save The Maps (Sattelite & Map) On The Point N Seek for Memory Card Size ? And Not Necessary Everytime Open The Point N Seek Download Maps Again ?
Thanks For You
