My principal interest in mobile is to push the boundaries of innovation to create uniquely mobile experiences. I hope my blogs excite and challenge developers to think 'outside the box'.

It’s a sad day for me as the Widsets platform is officially closed which means that the many innovative widgets we produced will suffer the same sad demise. In particular the loss of Bombus and Boom! which finish with 1.5 million users. I would like to say both thanks to everyone who played the game but also pay a large tribute to the team who developed Widsets which I think was a wonderful piece of work.
We did consider changing the widgets to J2ME an put them on OVI but the requirement to have J2ME applications Java verified (not sure of logic behind this)makes it to costly for us to consider so Bombus and Boom! RIP.

I cant find any official message about closing of Widsets platform. Is it really *officially*?

Im afraid so all. All registered Widsets users got a message confirming the close on June 1st and suggesting we could use Ovi for widgets although that only supports WRT
Java Verified is not a mandatroy requirement

Hi Paul,
have a look at http://blogs.s60.com/2009/05/ovi-store-not-requiring-java-verified and then the discussion at http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=169019
