Hi, I'm Paul, but you can also call me Todd and I won't get upset.

FileBrowser

Paul.Todd | 29 June, 2006 23:56

I've been busy working on a new FileBrowser for the S60 3rd Edition that should help developers find out what is going on under the hood.

I'm looking for a couple of people to beta test it and provide feedback what they like or dislike or what they would want to see.

You must have a valid ACSID.

Please email me by clicking the "Feedback to Author" link on the side if you are interested.

If you have anything particular you would like please add a comment and I will see what I can do.

Update: 04/07/06 - The people requesting a version should have recieved it today. Sorry for the delay.
If you have still not recieved it please email me (paul@toddsoftware.com)

antonypr Hi Paul, why do you require ACSID?
I want to participate in the beta testing too, but unfortunately I don't have ACSID.... :(

Paul.Todd You can get an ACSID free of charge from http://www.symbiansigned.com, though this will restrict you to 20 phones and needs to be renewed every six months

In order to be able to browse through the file system private data are you need "All Files" capability which means that the application needs to be signed with a UID from the protected range and have the all files capability on the exe.

antonypr Paul, are you sure we can get ACSID for free? I thought we have to apply it from Verisign for $350.
Could you please give more detail information how to get ACSID for free? The Symbian Signed site directs us to Verisign to get ACSID, which as I said costs $350.

Paul.Todd Guess this is what happens when I work for a faceless company :(.

I tested this on an inhouse devcert and phone which has an unrestricted ACSID.

It turns out that as the AllFiles capability is a manufacturer capability it needs an unrestricted ACSID and the one generated by the DevCert request tool does not support it.

I have raised a request with Symbian signed as to how I should proceed on this as the majority of developers will not have an unrestricted ACSID but do need to be able to browse the phone System to get to RFileLogger log files for example

When I get a response I will post it here, especially as the browser is freeware

Paul.Todd Sorry I have no idea.

I had a look in the DevKit and I could'nt see any either so I have my doubts that it is even supported
