Starting the application at device boot

Rippe | 17 November, 2006 09:25

Latest news!

I recently came accross with knowledge that using recognisers to start your application at the start up may make a S60 3rd edition phone a vegetable. This happens in totally random order, so I don't recommend on testing it. Well, starting up an application at device boot with recognisers is not supported feature in S60 3rd edition anyways. Besides if you happen to get it working, in some devices the applications will only be started when they are needed and then closed after they are not needed anymore. This is quite random as well.

There is a better way of doing it: Startup List Management API. That is supported by S60 3rd edition and will do the job. It will assure that the device will continue being it's happy self and not a vegie.

Hi,

We have slightly different requirment of Starting a Java Application when ever the user takes a picture using the Native Built in Camera application of the Phone. One this event capture, we wish the java application take the picture/video data and do some processing on the same either silently or visually.

Could you pl. let me know if
- We would able to have an Observer registered to know Camera Picture Take/Video Recorded event
- If yes, how to get the data just captured
- Finally, how do we start Java Midlet so that this data is passed as start up info.

I have seen MCameraObserver and other eCom api.. but I am not getting the answers from the doc.

Any help/directions would be of great help.

Rippe This went bit over my head. I don't know either. Recommend using the discussion groups or the technical support to find an answer. This does not seem to be a very conventional usage scenario...
