What do You think of our new home?

Nokia Ron | 29 October, 2007 23:10

Let us know what you think at Forum.Feedback@nokia.com or just respond to this blog. I want to emphasize how much this is YOUR community and it is YOUR opinions that matter the most to us.  We want your feedback in order to make this the most enjoyable developer community on the internet.  We did not let marketing have any say so in the Lobby, we designed it for developers, not the suits or pointy haired bosses.

For many months I’ve listened to both beginner and seasoned developers and they all say it is hard to find information on Forum Nokia.   I think this new developer’s community goes a long way in helping you to find information you need – at least from your fellow developers.  The Blogs Wiki and Discussions will soon have a unified single sign on so you can seamlessly move from one to the other (or to Forum Nokia for downloads) without having to re-click on the login.  The look and feel will be closer for all the elements of the community as well.

There were some compromises made a little less flash that some of us wanted, moving some familiar tabs to side items among other things.  The Wiki is probably the least affected community as it is the newest.  The blogs may seem the same but they have a new engine and a new ease of access so there is a really radical change of them underneath. The discussion boards had some user interface tweaks as a reorganization to be more topical had already taken place but will undergo other positive changes over the next six months.

This is just a start. We have a host of ideas on what we should do to improve your experience already but your feedback is needed. This is your home, kick your shoes off and make it comfortable.  Let us know at Forum.Feedback@nokia.com or comment on this blog here.

No more flash thanks!

Mattias Mortenson | 29/10/2007, 23:47

I'm glad that there is no flash. I don't see the point of using flash. Sure it draws the attention (when used with banners), but that's quite it. I remember how there was some material embedded in Flash at Forum some time ago. You couldn't find that material with the search. Please. PDFs work just fine, no flash thank you.

Where is "Report a Platform Bug" section?

Font size of Blog content is small. Please increase it for one point if possible.

Blog's content space

Konstantine | 30/10/2007, 10:02

Hello. Thanks for tendency to make Nokia.com easier to find information. Please, make the blog's content space so wide as possible. Just few (about 12) words find a room in each row for this time. If go to http://blogs.forum.nokia.com there is no a link to Start2Finish Blogs at the right column. Thanks, Konstantine

Yes. I know it. Using only keyboard, you can try with Ctrl ++. Anyways that is not a feasible solution. If this is the solution then it can be applied for viewing Code examples in Wiki also. But i don't think this should be a final solution. Let's see what happens.

The new design is pretty appealing :-), it feels much easier to search and navigate. But it has some glitches :-S It leaves the screen "empty": large nothing on the left, smaller nothing on the right - also depends on the resolution of course Long Location text re-arranges the whole design in a strange way - at least for me. For example check threads where Nitin (Nitin SuperByte) has posted something. You arrive at an apparently empty page. Personally I miss - the "last time you have been here"-indicator (I do not remember the exact wording) from the screens - and the tiny arrows denoting if I have posted something to a given thread - "" is functional, "Welcome " was friendly

My observation is that the normal text font size seems to be fine, but the code snippet font size is just too small even when compared to the normal-text font in the same page.

All in one place

Nice to have everything in one place...Easy to look for what you are looking for and easy to navigate. Looks is also better than before...no more flashy things.

Looks Better.

Looks Better, I loved to lobby part and the quick links which are found on the right pane.

Looks good

Bogdan Galiceanu | 30/10/2007, 14:31

It's better than ever. It's good to see those tabs on the top of the page, which make it easier to browse between "Wiki", "Discussions" and "Blogs". Also, the entire site seems richer in content, and more user-friendly( features are more obvious) Keep up the good work

I also like increasing the font size using the browser zoom, especially for really small fonts as in the blogs. However, the new layout gets rather messed up when enlarging the font size with the current Firefox. Maybe the internal layout structure of the HTML-site can be adapted, in order to react to font size changes in a better way? Or, we'll just have to wait for the new Firefox 3, which will hopefully include a proper zooming engine like Opera has...

Job well done!! :o)

pavanmv | 30/10/2007, 19:13

WoW!!!!!! Amazing..!! Thanks a lot for the great job you folks are doing for the Symbian and S60 developer community! The dynamic content and the seamless interaction it promotes have had me awestruck. I really really loved the new tab format where i can jump from wiki to disc board with a single click, and the customizable content on the main page is really nice. It would be great if login based personalization could be added and may be if we could have all the subscribed threads, popped up within small panes on the main page as soon as we login. All said and done.. It’s a fantastic work!!

no flash/pdf, please

Max Waterman | 31/10/2007, 05:59

Mattias says he is glad there is no flash. However, I see that there is indeed flash. I also don't like flash, since it restricts the platforms (eg difficult on x86_64/linux) with which the site can be viewed. It's also horribly slow (at least from my location). I also don't much like that (seemingly) all the documents are in pdf format. It's irritating. What's wrong with plain html?

Size in your blog is smaller than in other ones.

I like the new layout. It works well on Firefox now. :) I have a problem with my blog's comments. How come some legitimate comments are marked as spam? I have to manually mark them as "not spam".

To increase or decrease the font size on your screen, press the control key on your keyboard and use the mouse wheel.
