Here it comes: Nokia 5800 Firmware Update v20.0.012

neois | 09 February, 2009 19:43

At last, long await firmware update for Nokia 5800 was released already.

If you have 5800, just do the following steps to update your phone.

0. Make sure that your battery is full (VERY IMPORTANT)

1. Go to Dial screen and press *#0000#

2. Press Options -> Check for updates

3. Connect to the internet with any APN (WiFi is recommended, however EDGE is fast enough for this)

4. Wait until the download finished. Phone will launch the dialog asking for update, just press Now.

5. Press Accept and Accept and the phone will be switched to Updating mode

6. It takes around 10 minutes to update, so be patient. After that, the phone will be rebooted automatically.

7. Check by *#0000# again. Congrats! Your 5800 is now v20! :D

As I can see, there are so many improvement and worth to update for example, ability to take a picture from front camera and the phone operates faster than previous version. ;)

The firmware updates are made available progresivly in different ares of the world. You might get a Over-The-Air update (as shown above) or if you have the phone connected to the PC Suite you might get a notification there and then you can update the phone using the Nokia Software Update client on the PC. Either way, don't worry, the update will find you eventually.

Lock Code error after Updating!!

dreamyenator | 13/02/2009, 23:10

I have updated my 5800xm on 09th feb 09
firmware version is 20.0.0.012 and had to downoad about
11mb of file in my phone by FOTA
But after updating when the phone was rebooted,
the phone was asking for Lock code. Like everytime i was trying to give my default lock code 12345. but wasn't working! it says code error! i have enabled the security code but hadn't even the deafault code 12345.
What a misfortune it is saying code error!! how come!!
I've deeply upset when i heard from Nokia Care that they have the latest version of 11.0.0.08 in Bangladesh and technician of Nokia Care told me that they dont have anything to do right that moment.

I couldn't able to use my 5800xm from 9th feb till today.
Do something Nokia Please.
Give me a solution asap.

@dreamyenator

Hi, I'm sorry to say that it's bug of firmware v20.

However, you can full format it to make it alive once again. Just do the following step:

0. Charge your 5800 until battery full
1. Switch off your 5800
2. Press and hold "GREEN + RED + CAMERA" when powering up.
3. Hold those keys like that until you get the shaking hands.

If there is any dialog ask you for lock code, use 12345.

Warning: This does the full format, so data will be wiped out.

Nokia 5800 Firmware Update v20 for Switzerland

criza | 24/02/2009, 11:30

Hey neois, do you got a clue when this new Firmware will be available for my Nokia 5800?
My product code is 0575887 (10.0.010 5800 Switzerland CV CH R) and I've still got v10 of the firmware and can't update my phone neither to v11 nor to v20.
I'm a bit disappointed that some already can update the firmware and some, like me, can't!
So I'm wondering if it's going to happen soon, maybe you can tell me some rough date?
Thank you.

Hi,

I believe that it's available for every country already. If you can't update via OTA, I suggested you to update via Nokia Software Updater.

Firmware update for all regions possible !

ace.arjun | 27/02/2009, 20:02

Hi Folks,
I'm sure Nokia had come up with the firmware update ver 20 in all regions in the beginning of Feb, and withdrew it back from EMEA regions for some reason which is unknown. Since the updates are not possible for mobiles in these regions neither thru NSU not OTA, there is an alternate way which is not approved by Nokia i believe. So, i can not post it here, but u could try searching for the software "JAF" on google, which should do the trick, or u can mail me at ace.arjun@gmail.com, if u are having problems with it.

Firmware Update

inzomiac | 01/03/2009, 05:40

Is there other way to update 5800 XM without using JAF?
Like force the update server or create an update server, then configure update profile on 5800 XM to use this server like localhost something like that.

Really need to update my phone :D

Update over USB in Canada

bradz | 08/03/2009, 09:51

Hello.. my 5800 came with version = 11.0.008.red.01

I can connect via usb or bluetooth to the phone or SIMM card but can;t connect with PC Suite!

I don't have an account for air data.. and want to do this over wifi only. Will this version update solve my USB.PC Suite Connection?

Nokia has kinda botched the roll out of the 5800 in North America -- and read that the phone I must have gotten was a UK phone.. could this be an issue?

Any help would be appreciated, I'm having issues with Python etc because of this old firewall.

Thanks,
Brad

So is it not recommended to update? When this bug will be fixed?

@Sir Pulse

I'm highly recommended to update to v20 since it's much better than previous version. You just have to disable your phone lock code and everything would be fine.
