Google In The Mobile Area

Google had Announced 2008 Developer Events, The Events will include a mix of practical, hands-on advice for building web
apps as well as opportunities to learn about and discuss emerging trends.
Sessions with top Google engineers will cover tools developed both inside and
outside Google, including yet to be announced initiatives designed to move the
web forward.

Five simultaneous topic areas will cover:

AJAX & JavaScript: AJAX and JavaScript continue to capture the
imagination of web developers. These sessions focus on tools and techniques of
client-side code, and how to use them to make serious applications quickly and
	easily.

APIs & Tools: Development tools for the web are evolving.
Product APIs allow integration and extension of web applications. Tools like the
Google Web Toolkit™ provide a whole new way to improve performance and
	compatibility.

Social: The web is an inherently social place. A new wave of APIs
and frameworks, including OpenSocial, are opening up interesting ways to
	interact with people through applications.

Mobile:
	Mobile
devices are blurring the lines between handset developers and web developers,
opening up interesting opportunities for applications that span multiple
platforms. We'll take a look at how developers can use technologies such as
	Android™ and Mobile
Gears to build applications on the mobile
	web.

Maps & Geo: Since the introduction of the Google Maps™ API in
2005, geo and map applications have been one of the most interesting phenomena
on the web. These sessions focus on the many aspects of geo applications, from
KML to the Google Maps API and more.

The Events' contents show The development trend of mobile.

The battle for mobile market - Yahoo and Microsoft

Yahoo is continuing to release new products. as Microsoft looms in the background.

This
month Yahoo released Yahoo Go 3.0 and Yahoo OnePlace, a mobile content
management service. It also added new partners for Yahoo Mobile
Widgets, all for the European market. The mobile space is a big area of
opportunity and, according to analysts, none of the giants have yet to
establish themselves as the key player in the mobile space.

The
Yahoo mobile operating system, which is already available in the US,
will be available in a number of European countries, and European-based
widgets will be accessible on Yahoo's mobile browser. In the next
couple of months, Yahoo mobile users in France, Germany, Italy, Spain
and the UK will be able to access localized services from new mobile
widget development partners including Eurosport, Xing, eBay, MySpace
and Dopplr.

Yahoo Go 3.0
A whole new version of the free Yahoo! Go! on-device portal. Version 2
was actually pretty handy, including mapping and routing and support
for built-in GPS. Version 3.0 claims better email handling, more news,
satellite maps, live traffic. Sounds a bit like Google's portfolio,
except that here it's all in the one Java application. Worth a try?
Type get.go.yahoo.com into your smartphone's browser.

Yahoo OnePlace

Yahoo! onePlace™ brings together all your interests, passions and
important information into a single location, creating a rich, highly
personalized experience around it for you. Everything is instantly
organized, dynamically kept up to date, and served up to you the way
you want.

Microsoft, too, is vying to compete in the emerging mobile space. This
week, the software giant released its own mobile offering. Microsoft
has partnered with Nokia to release Silverlight, a mobile operating
system for the S60 platform on Symbian OS smartphones. Silverlight is a
cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for interactive applications.

Google Offers Free BlackBerry Calendar Sync Application

Google recently unveiled its latest cellphone related product: Google Sync. Google Sync is a tool that will synchronize a mobile phone's internal calendar with Google's own free Google Calendar service. Currently the application is available only for RIM's BlackBerry devices, which include the Curve 8300 and the Pearl 8100 family of devices, among others.

The application is capable of synchronizing the date, time, location, and notes associated with a calendar appointment, as well as available/busy time settings and reminder settings. Google Sync has an automatic setting that will cause it to synchronize the phone with the user's Google Calendar account every two hours, though the application will also synchronize immediately when an appointment is updated on the BlackBerry device by the user.

Google Sync can be downloaded from the Google Sync website. More information on the free product can be found here as well.

Google's Voice-Activated Local Search

Google Voice-Activated Local Search, that's a greate originality.

In an effort to provide users with options for finding local businesses while on the go, Google has introduced a beta search application called Google Voice Local Search. This experimental 411 service, with functionality similar to Google's existing Google Maps application, offers an alternative to using a laptop or desktop computer to search for local businesses.

By dialing 1-800-GOOG-411 (1-800-466-4411) from any phone in the US, users can get local business information via a voice recognition/response system, you can say "Giovanni's Pizzeria" or just "pizza", and be instantly connected to the business of choice, free of charge. If you prefer to have the information at your fingertips in text form, Google also offers users to the option to have the information sent to a mobile phone as an SMS message. Users will be charged normal text message and airtime rates by their mobile carriers if they choose this option.

At this time, residential information is not available with this service. For more information, go to Google Voice Local Search.
