UE?

I was told that it is fashionable to use the abbreviation UX in stead of UE. Fashionable or not, I'm now referring to User Experience and using the abbreviation UE.

What does that mean to you?

For me personally, as an end user, it means that I do not need to read a manual or help to use an application on my mobile. So "intuitive to use" comes to mind. Also "for my device" is an other phrase to use. It might be interesting to use an application intended for a touch screen device on a device without a touch screen. Or vice versa.

I've herd the term WOW also related to user experience. "WOW this looks cool!" I seldom get that. Maybe its my basic engineering character to get more exited on features than the looks. Well, the Nokia E71 did get me all exited and provided me with a WOW to the power of 10...

User Experience for me is also "working as expected". I don't want the application or my device (the E71) to crash or freeze. I want to use the features which the application is supposed to have, no more no less.

The last thing is naturally the usage security. No malicious features, my data is safe. That is partially related to the number of features.

Are you with me? Do you as application developers see something differently?

More about RDA

So, I have received positive feedback about putting Series 40 terminals to RDA. We will have to look into how this could be made possible.

Now a question, how do you use RDA now, if you don't use it why, how would you like to use it? What would you want out of RDA? What type of services would you require from the SIM cards attached to the RDA devices? (Yes, we have few there...)

RDA: S60 vs. Series 40

    Hello,

We are internally wondering the importance of adding Series 40 devices to RDA (you know, the service which allows you to access devices over the Internet, www.forum.nokia.com/rda). What do you think? Should we also support Series 40 or just stick with S60 support?

Please note that we did add few SIMs there as well, so in case you have not tried them out yet...

Is AppTest Lite worth it?

I had a chat about the AppTest Lite application, which is a free application helping to assure that the application passes the Symbian Signed testing. The chat was not really reassuring that we have done something right, even all our attentions were good with AppTest Lite.

Do you, dear readers, have any comments on AppTest Lite? Has it changed your life? Made it easier to pass Symbian Signed? Do you use it? Had you herd of it?
Any views on the test houses?

Wanna stir up some discussion about test houses in Java Verified and Symbian Signed. Please bear in mind that I will only publish constructive comments, the rest will remain between you and me...

I don't want to discuss pricing. As any cost is too much anyways. And my dream is a box in the Internet where you submit the application and it will say pass/fail (if failed, you get results why and advice how).

I would like to see how you find the test house services? Should the test house just do testing or provide additional testing/coding/"passing the process" related services? Would you be willing to pay for such? What is important. How do you find the current offering? Any differencies between the test houses?

What about testing quality? Is it better to pass the process and suffer the consequences for the left over bugs or the get all the bugs found and move on to other projects?
