Mobile Animation Challenge 2008, Singapore This national mobile animation challenge is targeted at secondary school students for the purpose of engaging them to create promotional clips on the mobile platform. Participants are required to assemble original and relevant media contents to create a promotional clip of not more than 30 seconds, based on the following theme: “Living in an Green Island” Tell us how life will be different in an energy-efficient future. The National Energy Policy Report (available at http://www.mti.gov.sg) outlines some policies that can lift Singapore’s energy efficiency. Can infocomm technologies help us to do more with less energy? Assemble an animation clip on a mobile platform of not more than 30 seconds to tell us how this can be done.

Truf and Leisti Awarded Conributor and Poster of the Month Honors

Most months Forum Nokia recognizes individuals that stand out in the developer’s community for their work. This month we are happy to announce that the winners will receive one of the latest versions of S60 3^rd Ed. Devices in addition to the recognition and thanks for their achievement.

For the Wiki this user is Leisti who’s contributions for Java beginners Installing Java ME development tools for S60 and Creating your first MIDlet using EclipseME caught the attention of the Wiki Moderators.

For the Discussion Boards it is an honor to name truf as the Poster of the Month. Truf has been very helpful in organizing and leading the discussion in the new Russian discussion board. However, it is his activity this past month and in previous months helping others with Symbian development questions that has made him a stand out community member.

WidSets Challenge 2008 is open to all students from all universities, polytechnics & colleges. The Challenge aims to allow students to showcase ideas and working models of their applications. The objective of the Challenge is to harness creativity and build the students' passion for innovation through mobile Web 2.0 technologies. WidSets service by Nokia is a popular consumer Internet service where users can create, publish, enjoy, and share their favorite Internet content on their mobile phones. It uses mini-applications called 'widgets' to identify updates made to the user's favorite Internet sites and pushes the content to a phone as soon as it becomes available. WidSets Scripting Language ("Helium") provides powerful Java-like environment to develop both mobile internet applications and stand-alone applications e.g. games.

S60 Programming Competition

Forum Nokia has launched a new competition for S60 developers. There will be a new programming challenge on a monthly basis and the best solutions will be awarded.

Problem for January:S60 supports multiple different runtimes and programming languages. The aim in this months competion is to come up with the glue that combines different runtimes. We're asking you to design and implement a framework that unifies the S60 runtimes. The goal is intercommunication of runtimes (f.ex. Symbian C++, Java, Flash, Python, Web Runtimes, you name it…). With this kind of runtime interaction it is possible to access totally new features and re-use existing solutions in a manner that is unheard of. Please provide us with your framework implementation and also atleast one working example of runtimes interworking. If you don't have time to implement all the needed parts let us know your ideas and planned design to score more points in the contest.

The January's competion is open until 15th of February (15.2.2008) and we hope to have the best solutions published by the end of February.

The NFC Forum is kicking off Touching the Future: NFC Forum Global Competition. Enter the competition, and have the chance to showcase your NFC application, win an award, and network with other NFC developers and professionals! The goal of the NFC Forum Global Competition is to promote innovation and excellence in NFC implementations, both present and future.

The Competition has two tracks: Commercial and Research. Entry fees are $150 for the Commercial track and $50 for the Research track. Entry is open to all interested parties.

The competition’s Organizing Committee is now accepting submissions;
all final proposals must be received by February 15, 2008.
The Competition Awards Ceremony will take place in Monaco on April 29, 2008.
