UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK -- SPEECH ON NEW MEDIA & 360FASHION

SEPTEMBER 19TH 2007

Today i was invited to give a speech about 360Fashion at the University of New York. I talked about and showed how to use the mobile as a content creation and publishing tool. I was especially excited to give this speech today because the entire class is women! The New York Post teacher, David Handshu, told me when he invited me to give a lecture on 360Fashion and anina.net, which is where my motivation came from to fit it in to my schedule here in new york.

i have to admit, i really was not a person to like school when i was growing up. i was always the one experimenting and doing things apart from the pack. i would often be totally bored in school, and get in trouble for not being attentive--even accused of cheating on tests after when i would set the top curve and have to take them over, only to score higher. i did not like school at all. i felt i did not fit in and it was too old fashioned. teachers would pose tests to me as challanges and promise me A's if i could answer the questions right, and then when i did--they would say they were joking and not give me an A for the whole semester. many times i stumped teachers with my answers or question, making them feel inadequate because they could not answer my questions. they often made me out to be the lazy student and the slacker--but i just enjoyed to learn on my own. by the time i got to the arts school where i was accepted with scholarship for the big paper i wrote to get in, even though i had finally a place to nurture me and support me with equipment and who encouraged experimentation--i just wanted to get out of school and get to europe. i regret not having taken advantage of the facilities that were available to me. i remember specifically in the first ever video class that they made, i went out and got my friend Adam from the music program to write some original music, and i went with the video camera to great lenghts to create a whole story in black and white about time and the movement of time. i waded out into a lake with the camera with a bag to film the fish and ran my watch under water and filmed it, even did timelapse photography and spliced it in. when we showed our videos--i garantee you mine was a real film, and the others were just sloppy filmings of what we would call now YOUTUBE. it made me mad in the second assignment that everyone copied me...so i worked on the third assignment with graphics--again copied in the fourth class.

the long and the short of it is to say, i really didnt like school. so you can imagine now on my third invitation from a major university to give a lecture on 360Fashion, that i could never imagine in my wildest dreams that i would EVER set foot in a school again--let alone be giving lectures as an expert in them. it's a very strange feeling after disliking school for so long. it left me with a crazy feeling inside--i really liked showing the students new things and helping them to think laterally. after the class the teacher was so overjoyed EVEN HE said he wants to join 360Fashion....kinda funny...and 7 of the students all wanted to be a part of 360Fashion and one girl wants to write about me for her journalism class...not a bad start in NYC....

NYU has gotten all new fascilities that are amazing! check it out here--these stylish classrooms and computer hangout lounges actually INSPIRED in me the feeling of wanting to go to school--especially when i saw the video editing and television suite--boy would like to experiment with what i am doing and broadcast television...as always my equipment budget out numbers my ability to test my ideas....someone out there own a TV station feel like making some experiments........?

anina.net MOBILE REPORTING SPEECH IN BEIJING

AUGUST 30th, 2007
CUC Communication University of China
[11:07:56 PM] Uli Weinberg says: No.1. East Street, Dingfuzhuang, Chaoyang District, 100024, Beijing

i have been invited to speek about 360Fashion and mobile video at the CUC in Beijing! their summer program is being lead by Ulli Weinberg from the HFF university in potsdamm, and this summer he is teaching about short film production. well, you don't get much shorter than a mobile video, and with all the power of the video editing capabilities in the s60 device, i will be pleased to present to the students my tricks and tips for mobile video making.

the mobile phone is a growing media channel, and in my opinion, creating a mobile movie with a HD camera, editing it in final cut pro, and then bringing it into the mobile device--is not the best way to go about it. granted, currently, muvee is the only application that allows you to overlay pre-programmed graphics in the mobile phone. however, i believe by looking towards the trends of the s60 platform (offering 3 different video editing propositions), you can not rule out the mobile as becoming the initiating device.

Chinese-German jury accepted 11 Projects for 2007 !

i realize now that currently the mobile video editing suite is not comparable to final cut pro, however i do believe that creative people can create with ANY device. by making experiments with the s60 tools, one can come up with some great surprises of DIGITAL COMBUSTION only available by using the specific device. i know what every phone can do and what video effect it will have from the 7650 to the 6630 to the 6680 to the n70 to the n93 and now to the n95. each device has a specific light meeter, a start time, a stop time, a video quality, and more that lead to different effects.

while everyone in the world is going from the TOP down, 360Fashion is going from the BOTTOM up. i guess it's all about perspective. maybe cuz i played with miniatures as a child, i think small, which as the devices progress, could lead to something big... ;D

360FASHION & AIFW -- POWER OF MOBILE REPORTING

360Fashion is proud to announce that the Amsterdam Fashion Week has become a member of the 360Fashion Network.

This past amsterdam fashion week, 360Fashion created a real time blog for the AIFW, sponsored by the Amsterdam Aiport Area, iamsterdam, and KPN.

anina.net organized five 360Fashion Reporters to report LIVE from the fashion week to the www.360fashion.tv and AIFW blog. Supported by KPN, 360Fashion brought fashion to the door of Holland with their real time coverage. 360Fashion and KPN made test with the COMVU system for live streaming from the catwalks, interviews, and surrounding events. These first tests using the cellular networks to bring real time reporting into the hands of the local professional's was fundamental in laying the ground for future fashion reporting. Thanks to Nokia Technology, 360Fashion is pioneering in the real time reporting space, by teaching and training non-technical people how to use the latest web 2.0 and mobile technologies for their benefit and promotion. Real life application and communication of technology is the key for reaching a wide-range, user adaptation. Taking the "scary stuff" out of technology, by giving hands on training and practical application in the proven 360Fashion methods, is supporting the mobile industry.

Empowering women to use cellular technology and supporting fashion is the way we can reach a new market share in the mobile industry that currently is being frightfully ignored.

radka, most sr member of 360Fashion amsterdam filming with n90

these are the women who are the role models for what kind of jobs women in the fashion industry can have.

who do these girls have to look up to? why are they not using their cellphones the way guys do? because there's nothing out there for them really to do in their mobile phones and no one to show them--except 360Fashion Pro's.

backstage its a lot of waiting...so having 360Fashion in your phone gives you something to do.

women loved the 360Fashion widset in their phones...cuz it works on all devices. go widsets!

this hair can give you better reception on your phone...(joke)

MANY THANKS TO KPN (marketing team of amsterdam pictured above with anina and james) FOR THE SIM CARDS SO WE COULD DO THE REAL TIME REPORTING!! KPN were the sponsors of the LICHTING young designer competition. This is a first in the cellular world in amsterdam that an operator supports fashion. THANK YOU TO KPN FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

the winner of the competition won a cash prise to produce his collection and support from the amsterdam fashion week.

amsterdam fashion week saw a big technology influence. this dress looks like it's out of bladerunner movie.

running around the fashion week with 3 phones is normal for me.

what i liked best about this amsterdam fashion week is that i started training 2 models, layla and rowenda. you can see their reporting on the 360Fashion TV. it's really important to help young models learn to be presenters--for their future jobs!

Hat's off to the AIFW, for innovating with technology and entering the mobile era with their real time reporting. they are truely dedicated to promoting their new designers through the new media channels! Hat's off to 360Fashion Reporters for the great start in working together with the AIFW!

Infused by her enthusiasm to share her passions, and buoyed by the combined excitement of all involved, 360Fashion has grown beyond her creator into something special and well recognized in the world.

Browse the 360Fashion world. Interact with everyone and leave a trail of comments to let others know what you think of what you read and see. While 360Fashion might be created from the mobile perspective of the fashion professionals within the industry, the interconnectivty in the conversation is only complete if you participate.
