Launching Anina Backstage News Application in the Ovi Store

It is a glorious day today, sun is shining and I'm on the front page of the Nokia Ovi store! Get up and get your phones out and support me with some comments and ranking for my Backstage Fashion Model Application.
Download it and follow along with me on my next adventures! I'm off to
China for a job on Saturday so stay tuned to your mobiles for some
backstage action. No idea what will happen--off the plane and into
action! Hopefully there will be wifi along the way in Narita Airport
and Detroit (doubtful).

Entering
an app in the Ovi store is no small feat--I have to say it's not the easiest of the 3 platforms out there. However, considering the amount of Nokia users out there, it is certainly the largest. I am very grateful to my friends
Robin and Flash at mippin, without whom I would never have gotten
approved (so many settings in that store! To be expected since there
are so many devices in so many countries). I'm very excited to see what
this will do for me in terms of visibility, I'm not sure how many women there are in Ovi. Lets wait and see! So far it's favorable reviews:

Features I really like about the Ovi Store: Website online is excellent, clear and clean. The ability to send sms to your friends to download the application sure beats all the other platforms. The mobile site is also in classic excellence for mobile devices. Very clear, very good search and very easy to navigate to.

Tremendous databases, wireless communications and the miniaturization of electronics provide opportunities to make major changes in the way people work and live. The Transformation Age explores the office, the marketplace, media, finances and our digital lives as they take new forms and remove the barriers of time, distance, wealth, education and even age.
THE OFFICE
The way an office looks and operates has changed dramatically in the past 50 years, and information technology - for better or for worse - has made a lot of those changes possible. Offices contain people who oversee or design products and services, market them and handle finances. I.T. continues to reduce the role of people in some of these functions while simultaneously reducing the importance of location. Anina Trepte is a high tech globe-trotting fashion model who practically runs her 360 Fashion company and web site with her cell phones.

ANINA DRESS UP brings reality into the virtual environment: real model, real designers, and real fashion, By bringing real-life fashion and technology together in an innovative mobile game, anina.net promotes designer talent on a global level from the palm of customers’ hands. ANINA DRESS UP opens a new market channel for innovative designers to reach future clients, by creating brand awareness through the mobile phone. It is a channel for consumers to discover local brands and new designers ahead of the curve.

Download the Game here to your phone: http://mobi.aninadressup.com

ANINA DRESS UP allows the user to read insider fashion news from the experts at 360Fashion and provides networking opportunities and news about the designers featured in the game.

The primary goal of the application is to give local fashion brands global visibility in the palm of clients’ hands, and lead to new talent discovery for buyers and journalists. To create a game geared toward the fashionable, from the insiders’ global perspective.

Participating designers are London’s, ELEYKISHIMOTO, New York’s Chesley McLaren, Holland’s Jolina Jolink, Daryl van Wouw, BLUEBLOOD, Jan Taminiau, DFF’s Conny Groenewegen, China’s Zebra Woods accessories, and Belgian designer Anja Austa. Zebra Woods and Anja Austa have both designed phone jewelry inspired by the game.

Its innovative user experience: it has an offline mode memory game where the players have to recreate the outfit shown to them under one minute. It has an offline free mode where players can mix and match their own outfits in their own time, with an online component for downloading new outfits to anina’s closet. When the player has finished making their own outfit combination in the phone, they can send the data via GPRS to an online gallery. In the online gallery, the public can vote and comment on the outfits.

Innovative technology is at the core of ANINA DRESS UP and is based on the following combination: Flash Lite by Adobe Corporation, collaboration with i2 tecnologia from Brazil, and anina.net’s interactive media approach. By bringing fashion drawings & information into the palm of players’ hands, designers can get their brand name out in innovative and effective ways.
VIDEO EDITOR COMPETITION WARNING

i saw something at the smart phone show that really made me worry for nokia. motorola has created a top of the line video editor, that surpasses the nokia video editor that i have been using forever. until now the only good video editor was by nokia, but this video editor in the moto smartphone, was amazing!
text overlay, background color change, transitions comparable with windows movie maker, text animations, and many effects options. i made this video with the demo software.

if moto come out with this powerful of a video editor, all those youtube like services are soon going to be filled with amazing mobile videos. i hope this post will get the attention of the platform builders!
UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK -- SPEECH ON NEW MEDIA & 360FASHION

SEPTEMBER 19TH 2007

Today i was invited to give a speech about 360Fashion at the University of New York. I talked about and showed how to use the mobile as a content creation and publishing tool. I was especially excited to give this speech today because the entire class is women! The New York Post teacher, David Handshu, told me when he invited me to give a lecture on 360Fashion and anina.net, which is where my motivation came from to fit it in to my schedule here in new york.

i have to admit, i really was not a person to like school when i was growing up. i was always the one experimenting and doing things apart from the pack. i would often be totally bored in school, and get in trouble for not being attentive--even accused of cheating on tests after when i would set the top curve and have to take them over, only to score higher. i did not like school at all. i felt i did not fit in and it was too old fashioned. teachers would pose tests to me as challanges and promise me A's if i could answer the questions right, and then when i did--they would say they were joking and not give me an A for the whole semester. many times i stumped teachers with my answers or question, making them feel inadequate because they could not answer my questions. they often made me out to be the lazy student and the slacker--but i just enjoyed to learn on my own. by the time i got to the arts school where i was accepted with scholarship for the big paper i wrote to get in, even though i had finally a place to nurture me and support me with equipment and who encouraged experimentation--i just wanted to get out of school and get to europe. i regret not having taken advantage of the facilities that were available to me. i remember specifically in the first ever video class that they made, i went out and got my friend Adam from the music program to write some original music, and i went with the video camera to great lenghts to create a whole story in black and white about time and the movement of time. i waded out into a lake with the camera with a bag to film the fish and ran my watch under water and filmed it, even did timelapse photography and spliced it in. when we showed our videos--i garantee you mine was a real film, and the others were just sloppy filmings of what we would call now YOUTUBE. it made me mad in the second assignment that everyone copied me...so i worked on the third assignment with graphics--again copied in the fourth class.

the long and the short of it is to say, i really didnt like school. so you can imagine now on my third invitation from a major university to give a lecture on 360Fashion, that i could never imagine in my wildest dreams that i would EVER set foot in a school again--let alone be giving lectures as an expert in them. it's a very strange feeling after disliking school for so long. it left me with a crazy feeling inside--i really liked showing the students new things and helping them to think laterally. after the class the teacher was so overjoyed EVEN HE said he wants to join 360Fashion....kinda funny...and 7 of the students all wanted to be a part of 360Fashion and one girl wants to write about me for her journalism class...not a bad start in NYC....
NEW YORK FASHION WEEK SAYS NO TO UNPROFESSIONAL EQUIPMENT -- EXCEPTIONTION: 360FASHION

IMG WORLD banned from the catwalks this year all "unprofessional equipment". their concern is the quality. i discussed this issue with IMG WORLD online media head, and he said simply [i paraphrased it as best i could], "fashion is about beauty. fashion is about quality. designers spend 100,000 and more on presenting their collections during the fashion week. what is the point of spending so much money, if the results will be a blurry, fuzzy, video online? this does not serve the designers, and it does not serve the the consumers, and it serves no purpose. you have to choose the right tool for the right situation, and currently cellular technology and consumer electronics products do not produce high enough quality results for the fashion industry."

while i would in one regard totally agree with him, from a personal perspective i would have to agree with robert cringely when we spoke during my PBS interview (they are making a documentary on me during the fashion week). if no one pushes the envelope--how will the technology evolve? if i don't make tests, try out new things, make experiments live, then how will the technology get better.

here you can see the interview with top photographer, randy brooke, where i asked him why with my n93 did i get pixelation and color variation on the catwalk. you can see here a video i uploaded with my n93 (still the superior device in my opinion for fashion quality video) and a test device n95 loaned to me by nokia. the light meter in the n95 is MUCH WORSE, (along with other featured they have eliminated from the video editing software). the video is completely washed out in the n95 video of the same show.

anina.net MOBILE REPORTING SPEECH IN BEIJING

AUGUST 30th, 2007
CUC Communication University of China
[11:07:56 PM] Uli Weinberg says: No.1. East Street, Dingfuzhuang, Chaoyang District, 100024, Beijing

i have been invited to speek about 360Fashion and mobile video at the CUC in Beijing! their summer program is being lead by Ulli Weinberg from the HFF university in potsdamm, and this summer he is teaching about short film production. well, you don't get much shorter than a mobile video, and with all the power of the video editing capabilities in the s60 device, i will be pleased to present to the students my tricks and tips for mobile video making.

the mobile phone is a growing media channel, and in my opinion, creating a mobile movie with a HD camera, editing it in final cut pro, and then bringing it into the mobile device--is not the best way to go about it. granted, currently, muvee is the only application that allows you to overlay pre-programmed graphics in the mobile phone. however, i believe by looking towards the trends of the s60 platform (offering 3 different video editing propositions), you can not rule out the mobile as becoming the initiating device.

Chinese-German jury accepted 11 Projects for 2007 !

i realize now that currently the mobile video editing suite is not comparable to final cut pro, however i do believe that creative people can create with ANY device. by making experiments with the s60 tools, one can come up with some great surprises of DIGITAL COMBUSTION only available by using the specific device. i know what every phone can do and what video effect it will have from the 7650 to the 6630 to the 6680 to the n70 to the n93 and now to the n95. each device has a specific light meeter, a start time, a stop time, a video quality, and more that lead to different effects.

while everyone in the world is going from the TOP down, 360Fashion is going from the BOTTOM up. i guess it's all about perspective. maybe cuz i played with miniatures as a child, i think small, which as the devices progress, could lead to something big... ;D

Teknomalli Anina -- INNOVA MAGAZINE

This month if you are in Finland, stop into your local magazine store and pick up a copy of INNOVA MAGAZINE. Innova has written an article about me and the 360Fashion network. i would love to know what is says, but it's totaly in Finnish.

if you cant see this animation click here, it's cool!

i am always doing my best to bring technology into the fashion magazine space and to use my name and image to make technology glamorous. i hope in this way that other girls will see the value proposition of the mobile, and begin using internet, video, and other mobile services. currently it makes me really frustrated when i talk to my model friends who are not from western countries, but from Latvia, Poland, Ukrain, Russia, Brazil, Columbia, and other emerging places, and i hear them say that they don't need the internet. that they dont need internet on their mobile phones. that they are not interested to study web design, or computers.

they say that they don't need it for their future. they say email is great and that they have computers everywhere where they can browse the web. why should they pay for mobile internet (also, most of the time they have pre-paid phone cards so they would not be able to do it anyway). they ask me why they should use their mobile phones for anything other than to make phone calls and send sms.

i think the main reason for this is because on operator portals, there is only sex, sports, cars, and male dominated services available and nothing suitable for women. they go there once, don't find anything that appeals to them--no value proposition--and they don't come back. i think this lack of interest is also because there are not strong female role-models. i think it's because games too are shoot up and violent, or too frilly-silly-simple for interesting play. i think it's because there are not enough women designing services, or games/applications to suite women.

i hope to change this by creating applications and services that will motivate women to give the phone a wider application for women beyond just phoning and texting. i work to change this lack of interest also by using my influence--showing how i use mobile internet and how it helps me do business faster, on an international level, and communicate better. i am always looking for 3rd party mobile companies to create games that are compelling for girls, and though 360Fashion Network's strong role models of Vivianne Blassel, Diane Pernet, Iris Brosch, Rebekah Roy, and Susie Hollands to appeal to a wide array of women in all age demographics. i do this also by speaking out in articles such as the one in INNOVA magazine, and i see the results of my influence when i receive a lot of emails from women saying tney never knew you could do so much with a phone or use it in these additional ways. i reach out to non-technical people and influence/motivate them to surmount the their techno-disappointment / phobia, to give the mobile another try. i am very happy when fashion magazines find interest in me and write about what i am doing because it also gets them thinking about how they can bring more technology into their traditional media space.

if anyone can tell me what the article says though, that would be great!

...and beyond is an amsterdam based fashion initiative.

Their focus lies in creating images, worlds around- and about fashion.

Conceptual and applied work exists next to eachother,

they are always looking for meaningfull ways to cross disciplines and styles.

www.andbeyond.nl

text about the scarf design:

the scarf is part of the collection:

'something here feels horribly wrong'

This collection is inspired by the 17th century still-life paintings, wich showcase beauty, richness and prestige but reveal decay when you look closely, it seeks how to show the subtle, uneasy details of modern life. On the surface, people are striving for succes, wealth and happiness, but underneath, fear is taking over. This feeling of threat is woven into this collection as subtly as the rotten fruit and insects are painted into 17th-century fruit bowls.

The scarfdesign is based on the known PLO scarf, the design reflects on the conflicting connotations of this piece of clothing, used as a religious, terrorist, subculture or fashion icon.

The pixel prints are downloadable images from Nokia phones and show a sign of the present time.

360FASHION IN YOUR PHONE

360Fashion announces 360FASHION IN YOUR PHONE together with Nokia Widsets.

you can download it here.

anina.net worked together with Nokia Widsets in order to create a rich, interactive, multimedia experience in your phone: photos, text, and commenting. it was modeled after my 360Fashion flash lite reader that i launched a year ago at 3GSM together with adobe.

The second concpet around 360Fashion in your phone, was to create a widset that was distinctively different to the other widsets in the library, in order to push the boundaries of design, in order to inspire other brands to see what is possible. While others are creating widsets that are square, 360Fashion worked with shading, transparancy, and innovation in order to come up with the final design.

Here are some other version shapes and forms to inspire you:

  this one is for christmas!

this was the first try...the 360Fashion was waaaaaay to small.

READING WITH MULTIMEDIA INTERACTIVE WIDSET

reading with the widset is really nice. the font ajusts itself to the size of the phone. you can have your widset on multiple phones, but not using them all at the same time. it's like windows...you have to close one to open the software on a new device.

THE STANDARD WIDSETS FROM THE STUDIO SECTION

these widsets unlike the one above which was hand crafted, are easy to make and standard. you just prepare your graphics and off you go! there's no customization possible really, but their interface is clean and clear:

it still has all the multimedia functions of the 360Fashion widset.

i will post more photos here and more explanation. for the time being, uploading all those photos and stuff took me more than 4 hours of work. oof! i hope you like the colorful post though!

all artwork was done by FARLEY BRIAN, from KURST.CO.UK (the creators of the 360Fashion website).

please download and test out the 360Fashion widset and email me to let me know what you think!

thank you for your support!

I checked out the new N93 it looks awesome. Time for an upgrade I think Nokia!" anthony o'dwyer is a video blogger and a digital operator in new york city. the N93 is obviously the video producer's dream device!

TYPEPAD/LIFEBLOG PROBLEMS

for the past 6 months i have constantly been posting to the sixapart tech support, that from the mobile perspective, there are problems with posting from the phone. their servers do not let the lifeblog application know that the posting is complete. so when i am running around only mobile and posting, i get ALL THE TIME,

SERVER ERROS, PLEASE TRY AGAIN

so i try again and try again, and that's why on my blog i have 12 posts of IN STYLE TAN article.

i hope they can get it fixed. LIFEBLOG is the BEST MOBLOGGING SOFTWARE on the market. it's the most INCREDIBLE TOOL and TYPEPAD is the top hosted blogging tool on the market. i wish that nokia would help them solve the problem since it reflects on the LIFEBLOG credibility.

APPLE and NOKIA

i have always loved the apple tools such as imovie, quicktime pro, and garage band. apple has gone out of their way to include the mobile platforms in their tools. you can export from imovie to 3gp, from quicktime pro to amr/3gp. the file formats all work seamlessly in and out.

the problem has always been that it is universally known that apple and nokia do not work together.

if you want to send your information to the mac, you have to tiediously, one by one, bluetooth each file. it is so time consuming. not to mention if you want to then transfer the information BACK to the nokia phone. the information is bluetoothed to the phone and arrives in your messages inbox. this can lead to big problems if your file is big and your phone has a small memory space on the phone brain side.
i have recently got a mac book pro,

YOU CANNOT SEE THE LIFEBLOG VIDEO ON THIS SERVER BECAUSE THE BLOG PLATFORM DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO USE JAVASCRIPT. PLEASE VIEW MY BLOG TO SEE THE VIDEO: CLICK HERE TO SEE THE VIDEO

and it really is the dream machine. windows never looked so good! i have tested that all the nokia programs i use on forum nokia work on the xp running bootcamp on apple.

however, on the mac os side i still am unable to browse the files on my nokia n70.
apple invited me to their offices in germany for training when they heard i was still not satisfied with the mac. i was very happy to learn about garage band, imovie, iweb, idvd, etc. they are great programs. however a few questions remained that i asked them to solve: how to network a mac and pc together, how to use my n70 as a modem for the mac book pro, how to browse the nokia phone via bluetooth.

with 4 technicians and 6 hours they were able to teach me how to do everything, after figuring it out for themselves, EXCEPT browse the n70 device. we were able to browse the n80 device that i had on loan to test out.

i decided to investigate further, so when i arrived to london i went to the genious bar at the apple store and arranged to have a genii who is possibly the one and only nokia user at apple. i showed him the problem:

YOU CANT SEE THIS VPOD OR YOURTUBE VIDEO ON THIS SERVER BECAUSE THE BLOG PLATFORM DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO USE JAVASCRIPT. PLEASE VIEW MY BLOG TO SEE THE VIDEO: CLICK HERE TO SEE THE VIDEO

apple bluetooth's "browse device" connects to the nokia phone (this is proved by the bluetooth connect symbol appearing on the nokia phone, the isynch working on the apple side, and the ability to send a file to the phone). however, on the apple side, the browse device box shows no file structure on the phone. it shows a (backslash) and no files or file structure of the phone.

we tested again all the phones that i had tried: n70, 6630, 7610, which all were not able to be browsed. we tested the n80 which worked perfectly and showed the whole file structure of the phone, the files of the C & D drives. we tested the 9300, which showed the C & D drives along with it's files. we tested the 7380 which showed the drives and files.

we started a case file and i called apple to escalate the issue internally and was contacted by the head of europe and put in touch with their mobile technical expert a few days later. we tested again all the devices, and he tested them independently of my devices and found the exact same results.

however, he came to the conclusion that the problem did not lie on the apple side (because the device WAS connected to the computer). he said the problem lay on the side of the symbian platform. that either:

-the device file folders were protected, and unable to be viewed by the mac

-the computer was not being delivered to the root directory (being lead to the incorrect place on the phone)

he came to the same conclusion that i came to: that the problem was only with s60 second edition phones. he said that something must have been changed with the s60 3rd edition because n80's work seamlessly (unfortunately i dont have any s60 3rd edition devices and no one in my project has a s60 3rd edition device).
so wheather the problem lies on the side of symbian or on the side of s60, has yet to be determined. wheather it is a bug, or mearly functionality that was left out, has yet to be determined. wheather a patch needs to be created or an update coded has yet to be determined.

one thing is for sure: this "problem" or lack of functionality is messing up my 360Fashion project in a big way. the fashion industry is primarily dominated by creatives who use apple computers. i have constantly heard the response from my collegues and associates saying, "i would love to have a nokia, but it doesnt work with my mac".

they all own sony ericssons. which work seamlessly with apple computers. sony has created even creative tools and software that works on the mac side. perhaps that is one of the contributing factors to why motorola and sony ericsson dominate the fashion and entertainment industries.

clearly this is hurting BOTH apple and nokia, as the nseries devices and the s60 platform are indeed the superior creative tools of my choice.

when i have talked to nokia about this problem i get answers saying they are mainly focused on the windows majority market share. when i have raised this problem to nokia the people i talk to say they cannot test because they do not have a mac.
i wish that i could get this problem solved as it is a huge hurtle for me in my 360fashion network. if you want the primarily non-technical community to begin to create with mobile devices, then you must make it easy for them to use the superior creative tools--which indeed are present on the mac.

i am now sounding the alarm and raising this issue in hopes that i can get this problem solved. can anybody help?

ps...if you view this post on my blog the formatting is much better.
