The specification says that it supports JSR 257 but doesn’t list this of those preinstalled which may mean you need to get access through Nokia as for the previous NFC phones <o:p> </o:p> <o:p> </o:p> The phone will allow users to have their credit card, travel card and loyalty card in on a phone plus many other activities. Much is talked about disruptive technologies, i.e technologies than produce enormous changes in society, and I believe NFC could well be such a technology particularly when coupled with a phone. As and example I blogged a while ago about the NFC poster specification being finalised and coupled with this type of device we could well be at the dawn of a whole new advertising and distribution were a poster for a band may allow you to download a ringtone or a poster for a movie may allow you to download the trailer. <o:p> </o:p> So I say forget the iphone get yourself a Nokia 6131 NFC!   Business Opportunities/Services Java Series 40 2007-01-12T11:27:25Z coultonp Prize winning mobile RFID/NFC mixed realty game http://blogs.forum.nokia.com/blog/paul-coultons-forum-nokia-blog/2006/09/04/prize-winning-mobile-rfid-nfc-mixed-realty-game I have just received word that three students who contributed to our paper on the mobile/RFID mixed reality game <a href="http://www.pac-lan.com">PAC-LAN</a> (which I described in my very <a href="http://blogs.forum.nokia.com/view_entry.html?id=43">first blog</a>) has won the Scholarship Prize from the <a href="http://www.acm.org/pubs/cie.html">ACM Computers in Entertainment</a> for the best paper submitted for 2006. The <a href="http://www.acm.org/pubs/cie/scholarships.html">Prize</a> is $15,000 and will be presented at the world-renowned <a href="http://www.afi.com">American Film Institute</a> in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Hollywood</st1:city>, <st1:state w:st="on">California</st1:state></st1:place> on November 4, 2006.  Each winners will be awarded up to $5,000 for interning at either the Mixed Reality Lab in <st1:country-region w:st="on">Singapore</st1:country-region> or the Hollywood Lab in <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Los Angeles</st1:place></st1:city>.<o:p> </o:p>   The paper is: <o:p> </o:p> Rashid, 0., Bamford, W., Coulton, P., Edwards, R., and Scheibel, J. PAC-LAN: Mixed reality gaming with RFID enabled mobile phones, to appear ACM CIE October 2006.  <o:p> </o:p> One of the anonymous reviewers described the paper “as an important contribution in the field” and the three students involved are Omer Rashid and Will Bamford of Lancaster University (UK), and Jurgen Scheible of the University of Art and Design (Finland). As academics Reuben and I dont share the prize but do get an invite to the awards. <o:p> </o:p> I would like to acknowledge the support provided by Nokia for this project in terms of the phones and access to the SDK without which we would not have been able to complete the project and in particular my special thanks to Harri Pennanen and Gerhard Romen.
