Hello All

After a prolong waiting its time of some good news for Nokia N97 users, as there is an firmware update available via NSU i.e. nokia software updater.

The v20 firmware reports to have good scrolling effect and new looks of OVI Maps and store is also expected. I have just updated the device and following are some of my observations:

The touch UI response has improved fairly and that is what we all were waiting for.

I observed some improvements in the default music player which are same like my good old nokia N95 8gb.

The new OVI Maps has a great improvement with the 3D maps.

I was expecting some improvements in the phone memory optimization but sad to say i didnt find any optimization.

Please feel free to post your comments and feedbacks.

PyS60 1.9.6 is here

  <dc:description>Hello PyS60 Fans

PyS60
Team yesterday announced a new PyS60 version which is
1.9.6 this is again a experimental release for testing with a aim of
getting an efficient final product i.e. 2.0.

Now lets list out some features of the PyS60 1.9.6 as listed by tvijayan of the PyS60 Team:

Support
for a virtual 4-way directional pad is added for Canvas and text
widgets. This D-Pad is displayed at the bottom of the screen and this
feauture is enabled by default on touch enabled devices. Currently,
this is supported only in the portrait mode and landscape support will
be available in a future release.

The size of the sis created using the application packager will reduce as the modules in the base runtime is more refined.

A
new chapter is added in the PyS60 documentation (Extending and
Embedding PyS60), that is an end-to-end tutorial for creating 3rd party
extention modules and distributing them. This one is my favorite as
this is a Official documentation for creating your extensions.

The above listed are the major changes from the past 1.9.5 release. To read more and to post your comments on the release please have a look at the Forum Nokia PyS60 discussion board.

PyS60 releases can be downloaded from maemo garage where you can also file bug reports and write some feature requests.
Hi all,

On 24th of this month Forum Nokia Announced some new Forum Nokia Champions. I am very pleased to say that as usual this time also there are two FNCs from my city Bhavnagar.
The two names are my Prof. Mehul Jajal and One of my best freind Chintan Umraliya.

Mehul Sir was recently announced as the wiki contributor of december and january months. Sir has contributed a variety of articles at the forum nokia wiki on the recently announced Qt for S60. He is also very active at the forum nokia Qt Dibo.

Chintan was earlier announced as the runner up in the forum nokia wiki widget competition and was involved with me in the development of the recently announced call!nfo. Chintan is also active at forum nokia discussion boards and contributes regularly at forum nokia wiki.

Thanks to forum nokia for rewarding their activities and contribution. I am sure this will motivate some more students to learn mobile application development and actively participate in forum nokia related activities.

Congrats to Mehul sir and Chintan.

  <dc:description>
Hello all

Its the time for another minor realease of Python for S60 1.9.x series.:)

This time its the Python for S60 1.9.2. There are not many changes with respect to the earlier releases but there is a very important addition and that is the brand new Sensor Module. The recent release of Python for S60 has a very new Sensor Module which supports S60 3rd edition FP2 devices and 5th edition too.

Some more positive changes are:

Reduction in the installer size! The application packager GUI is now based on Tkinter, hence PyQt setup is removed from the windows installer.

The UID of PythonRuntime has changed from '0xF0201514' to '0xE0201514'.

PyS60 Application Packager is now based on ensymble 0.28.

On the dark side S60 2nd edition users will not be able to use that as the OpenC libraries are not available on 2nd edition devices.

You can download the Python for S60 1.9.2 from Maemo Garage.

Moreover here goes the announcement page.

We hope we all PyS60 fans will soon see a TouchUi enabled PyS60.

Enjoy Pythoning

Gargi Das
</dc:description>

The application is developed by myself and my freind chintan (a.k.a ck.umraliya).

Call!nfo breaks the monotonous way of getting the call logs infomation and gives you details about your logs in a new graphical fashion. Following are the details about the application:

Features:

Recent Calls:A graphical analysis of your recent incoming and outgoing Calls.

Calls Distribution:Know the persons who you contacted the most in	recent days. It finds 6 most contacted numbers and shows the total call	duration of each of them. It compares it to the rest all other calls'	duration.

SMS Info:Now get to know how many SMS you sent to a particular number and know the total umber of SMS sent.

Estimate Bill:Calculate your monthly amount spent on SMS and Calls and get to know the total bill at the end of the month.

with all the above mentioned features there are some tasks which we are kept for future development and we will try to complete them as early as possible. The Future Palns are:

Future Plans:

Location Tagging : Know at which location you have made the calls and receive the calls.

Itemized Bill: Upload all your data to a particular secure server	and fetch it when you want no need to pay extra to the operator for	itemized bill.

For this application i like to give a special thanks to our prof.Kiran Trivedi without him this application would not have been possible.

The application can be downloaded from mobapps.

One morething if you are facing the problems with the sis file functioning , then you can downlaod the code package.

Just read the readme.txt and get going with the application.

Hope you all like the application and we are very much open to your suggestion and feedback.

Best regards

Gargi Das

</dc:description>

I also run a website with the help of my prof. Kiran Trivedi who is also a forum nokia champion, the site contains contain tutorials on making applications with PyS60. Presently apart from making applications in Python i am also working on the web run time technology. I guess thats much about me, now coming back to the main point.

This is just to inform the PyS60 developers and fans that the PyS60 1.9.1 is released.

This release runs on the S60 3rd edition, 3rd FP1, 3rd edition FP2 and in S60 5th edition devices also.

The important thing in this relaese is that the they have included the Zip files for SDKs. Which will help a lot in application development.

Now what 1.9.1 release have:

- The startup time and installation time are more optimized as compared to the earlier 1.9.0 release.

- All the Python files in the runtime sis are compiled into .pyc files and included in a zip file. sys.path is updated with the path of this zip file. This reduced the interpreter startup time considerably.

- A more generic error message is displayed when trying to load an application without the PyS60 Dependencies installed.

- Support for building just a <subsystem> is provided. Refer build, build_emu, build_device help of setup.py.

- Unlike 1.4.x, a single SDK zip contains both gcce and armv5 link libraries. Separate SDK zips are provided for 3rdEd, 3rdEdFP1 and 3rdEdFP2.

- The default mode of ensymble py2sis command is changed to 'pycore'. All scripts which refer to pys60 modules socket and calendar should use the new names - btsocket and e32calendar to use the S60 functionality in pycore mode. Also renamed "Prioritize PyS60 module library" to "1.4.x compatibility mode" on the UI of application packager.

The targets for the final 2.0 release can be read from the announcement link on the Python Discussion boards.

Best regards

Gargi Das

</dc:description>
