Service break on forum.nokia.com on November 8th-9th

As our servers are going to be physically moved to a new hosting center over the second weekend on November (November 8th-9th), the Forum Nokia web site will be unavailable over that weekend. So no discussion boards, wiki, blogs nor the main Forum Nokia Web site is going to be available on that Saturday and Sunday. The break will start on Saturday at 6am EEST and will be over on Sunday at 10pm EEST.

Yes, there is still a couple weeks until the service break, and most of you will forget this announcement by then, so we will remind you of this break also closer to that date :-)

There are a number of interesting Flash Lite related webinars coming by Forum Nokia and Adobe. On Thursday, Dec 13th James Spanh from Cell Company is talking about "Generating Revenue with Flash Content and Services" (register). Then on Friday, December 14th Floris van de Klashorst from Nokia Advertisement Business has a presentation on Mobile Advertising (register). And finally on December 18th, Giorgio Natili will tell us about "Exploring the Flash Video Capabilities for Mobile" (register). Enjoy!

Got this email from the FN guy organizing this event. In case anyone of my readers is in Silicon Valley around July 17th and also interested in mobile VoIP and WLAN space, here we go:

Forum Nokia, Nokia's developer organization, is hosting a VoIP and WLAN Deep Dive at the Nokia campus in Mountain View, CA on July 17th. Attend this event to learn how to create full-duplex VoIP applications with great voice quality as well as hear how to use WLAN without wasting the battery. Speakers will range from Forum Nokia to the S60 Audio and S60 WLAN-WiMax teams, who will take you on a deep dive into the S60 platform features. Please bring your code if you would like help debugging or fixing any issue you may have!

Additionally, there will be Forum Nokia technical experts available to answer any questions you may have as well as the opportunity to meet 1:1 with the Nokia team.

Under the Radar Mobility - emerging mobile companies

The sixth Under the Radar event, held in November 16th at Microsoft campus in Mountain View, featured 32 emerging start-ups in the mobile sector.

I was not able to participate, but browsing through the list of participating companies is interesting read too :-) Some of the companies are "old" names (like 4info, Pixpulse, Pixsense, and ScanR) from Silicon Valley Mobile Monday events. There is a number of mobile advertising companies (will this ever get going... I participated in Wireless Advertising Association in early 2000's, but have not seen anything major in the mobile advertising sector yet... which is also a good thing - I want to have my phone as advertising free as possible).

FAQs on Discussion Boards

We have added a number of "Frequently Asked Questions" sticky posts on Forum Nokia Discussion boards (for example see Java and Symbian FAQs) as we have seen same questions asked over and over again on the developer discussion boards. We hope to remove this unnecessary duplication (triplication, quadruplication, ...) of questions with these FAQ posts. Time will show if we will succeed or not.

In addition to these Discussion Board FAQ there are also other FAQ-type documents on Forum Nokia Web site (like for example FAQ in Technical Library and the Java ME Developer's Library), which will provide additional answers to your questions.
